Default VPS or dedicated server ?
Hello,
I want to open a private tracker but I don't know if a little VPS is enought to run a tracker. I saw a VPS on ccihosting with 1 core Xeon and 1 Gb ram; It is enought ?
And finally, have you a good provider ?
Thank in advance

It all depends on a couple of things,:
-How many users
-What tracker software/script you're planning on using

well it depends on how big you want it to be if you are uploading with multi bots and plan to have a lot of content, you would like to have decent memory and CPU but I would asume that you want to have a normal tracker then I'm sure VPS will be fine. Taking in account that a VPS behaves just like a Dedi but its a dedicated server thats slit up normally into four parts using something like Proxmox or something similar. That specs given seem fine to me.

Thank you to you two for these responses.
I think I'll use u-232 (or Gazelle but I don't think so) and for the moment it will be a little tracker. ^^

I have seen quite an few sites on vps using u232 software and its not bad.
You also have to be-carefully on vps cause some places over sell the servers aka tooooo many users for the server to handle..
From the looks of webhosting talk looks like ccihosting is another one that over sells there servers :(
I have had friends use https://aireservers.com/vps.html and they not bad. An little slow getting the server thought lol..
I have 1 from https://iniz.com/ and its not bad for an testing server. But again I have had friends that used an vps from them and it was slower then death.

You win some and loose some with hosts it seems.

1GB isn't enought..
servers with 1GB of ram will have i386 arhitecture
1GB won't help you with memcache + mysql + php + any other services running.
minimum is 4GB for a working site and for x64 arhitecture.
webhosting won't do you any good because you won't get access to the server to install all the services you need

it depends on how much are you willing to spend.
it depends in which country will be the server
you can't simply one day say that you will built something that is used for piracy and don't think about security/legislation/anonymity/

I think about security/anonymity/anonymity...
I'm not going to open a tracker to be take down in 3 months. And this is why I want as much information as possible.
