Starting a Torrent Website, Suggestions Welcomed!

Hi,

I am thinking of starting a torrent website. I have already got a domain. And have got VPS. I thinking of running a public website(Tracker).

Now the question is, which source to use? I know their are some free sources, and some paid.

I have tried following sources.
TorrentTrader/TorrentStrike: Good for Pvt tracker(Dont wanna juse it)
TorrentPier: Russian Tracker, and hence Russian support
xBTiT: Hacks are hard for n00bs to install. But I like it.
TS: To heavy, good for pvt trackers
PMBT: Good for Public tracker(my opinion), I think a good theme would do. If some can help me with it.
WP-Trader: A awesome WordPress plugin, still in beta, I had my site running on it for almost 2weeks, had more than 70 registered users, 55 FB likes, then unfortunately due to server errors. Had to shut down. Great plugin, but still in beta. Soon we will get more people running WP based torrent site, which are easy to install, and some great features of wordpress.


I will prefer xBTiT or PMBT. Any suggestions.

I am not a coder, Hence will need to find someone who can do some custom themes, mods,etc.

hmm... im aware that this one is a long shot... but why not try TBdev?....

that... orr i suggest TS :)... i like TS... and yeah... too heavy.. but TBdev... is light... but not ALL the stuff in it as TS has... so... if i where you... start making some sort of poll orr somfthing ;)..

xbtit is great but I like ts the best and I would just install a few and see what you like the best

who are your target audience? your future plan, additional co-founders, staffing, resources, costs! all be said and done before!

Depending on what your level of knowledge, but probably the best tracker is Ocelot/Gazelle, but not necessary for someone starting off...
I would rather use the Ocelot/Gazelle install then the Xbt/Gazelle.

But I would pick Joe's source, PHPMYBITORRENT you will get a lot of support and help.

PHPBITORRENT is well thought out and is pretty complete upon install and a big plus is that it allows external scrapes. I can honestly say that it has one of the best shoutbox's and a pretty complete admin panel.

Joe is a good guy and offers a lot of help and hats go off for original source code meaning its not based on tbdev.

Anther choice is TBDEV but like gazelle you will need to know a little bit to make it look posh.

There is also TSSE which is based on TBDEV which has one of the best admin and staff panel/tools and it is pretty complete. But unfortunately it has a retarded security system and also technically its not free but thanks to a few supreme beings who have nulled and decoded it for us
My personal opinion its ok to pay someone to code and theme sites but its a no no to sell torrent source code.

U-232 is also very good and its also based on TBDEV although in my opinion its put together a lot better then TSSE and unlike TSSE it has a way better security system... plus the guys are quite helpful and a lot of large and well known tracker use U-232 as there source code.

ZenTracker is just off the wall cool and completely different to any other source code out there plus its fast, clean and smooth.
The source code is built on symfony framework.

Its still quite new compared to some of the other trackers but still out of the top draw.

Opentarcker is currently my fav tracker its clean and has the most original upload page and browse page, plus the forums are clean and easy to use
and just like Zentracker its snippy and sleek.

Another thing I like about it is, its not complicated or over coded and in a whole its about the same size as TB source code but way better. I really recommend this source code to anyone and everyone that want to start a torrent site.

Its still brand new but f@ck I like it

I personally I don't like xBTiT for a number of reasons but I will not express them here because they are open source and for that I respect there work.

Any code will do .. It just depends on your knowledge of php/MYSQL an so on ..
