Why dont u use Linix/Ubuntu server and if you want a desktop environment you can always install KDE/Desktop and VNC/server to access it. I think PHP and Curl will like you more if you did
If its your home server/pc well Virtualbox, ubuntu/server and powerISO you will be able to run a home Linux stack like a pro and it will behave like a proper stack . With out a CD/DVD and on its own ip address.
