Default Upgrade Scripts
The last few days, I have been working on script to convert/change the database from U-232 V4 to Pu-239. But, I am thinking now that it would be better to create a new Pu-239 database and import the data into the new database.

I have some experience with this and I think the second method is less prone to errors.

The first script would:
  • convert the tables to innodb
  • set the default character set and collation
  • modify each table.column to match
  • modify indexes
  • add constraints
The more I work with this script, the more areas from breakage I find.

The second script would simply export the data from one and import import into the other, accounting for column name changes.

Anyone have any opinions on this?

I agree with you there....better to create new DB and import data than try to rework a existing DB.
