hi

alot of folks get called a scammer for example myself have been said once or twice
my story i built a tracker got paid for my work the owner fucked the tracker
he blames me ok so i fix for free then does the same a week later then calls me a scammer after i took his £10.00
= this equals im not a scammer and means the tracker owners a douche

next story - some douche says he can make the world for you on your tracker theme it mod it pimp it up you think great you pay him $$$$
= this douche then dont gives fuck all back but empty promisses and useless screenshots of what it would look like

this is a scam which one are you ajax did you take his money and give nothing? only you and him know then let the debate begin:smack:

KrackerMan 6th July 2013 14:56

ajax does good work and has made me a couple themes in the past. He had came thru each time he made one for me.

It sounds like (and just guessing here) he was making a theme for this guy and then took a break to do something (work in another city maybe). The guy started to get impatient and trying to finish it himself and edit some files and messed it up. As a lot of us know when you start working on a project you should always make backups as you go along. But a newbie does not think about this and just starts editing files and then when it messes up they panic and start pointing fingers.

I don't know if he did or did not scam this guy but you should never give someone a lot of cash up front.

Nice story. :ok:

Well, yes, I did take the money.
And I think I don't have to give him back anything. Why? Because he call'd me asshole. No, because I was working on theme (basically just cloning bitspyder, that was what he ordered) and he broke the tracker, mess all up and then said i did that, but i said that he better go on ftp and check when and what files was edited.. I got no answer on that, that mean's he got that I didn't break anything. Ok, I help to fix the tracker a bit, so users don't see just white page, added default theme. Next what comes up, he want another theme instead of that first one. Come on dude. Who likes to dance around one smartass who changing his mind and don't know anything about sources at all.

There was one good comment I seen today:

So when you have an issue.
You have to pay someone to fix it.
Or you want a new mod adding.
You pay someone to add it

This is a never ending circle.
And you open yourself to loads of potential problems.
The more people that have had access to your code.
The more messed up it can become ( lack on continuity in coding styles )

Not to mention the security issues, ( how many people have your access code )

If you are planning on having a long term tracker.
You need to learn how to code things for yourself.
That is what this forum and other forums are all about.
To help, support and teach you how to code.
We all started of not knowing much.
But we all have to start some where.

I'm not so much into debates.

Thanks for your comment man.
And just to be clear there wasn't "a lot of cash up front".
I was working on theme, all was good, he liked my work, started to pay me.. and then he messed up.

Lets clear up a misconception here.
Themes do not break sites.
Not even crap looking ones, ( though they may cause blindness :chch: )
BAD CODING breaks sites.

If you pay someone to create a theme.
Then that is what they do.
If you change your mind half way through the creation.
And want a different theme.
Be prepared to have to pay for another theme.
As well as the work on the original.

Lets take a look at how a theme works ( code wise ).
Regardless of weather it is just a basic color scheme.
Or if images are involved.
It is basically a self contained folder, containing :-

Header layout ( the top and right side configuration )
Footer layout ( the bottom and right side configuration )
CSS file ( for color, images, font ETC changes )
Image folder ( if the theme uses images )
Theme Function file (if extra functions are required to display the theme)

You add this folder to your themes folder
Add the name and ID to your data base table for your themes.
Then select the theme from your profile.
Then one of 2 things will happen.
The theme works or it does not.

It does not break your site

EDIT
Before you add any new code to a live site.
You add it to your test site ( usually on local host on your home PC )
And run tests to make sure it works first.
That is called Common sense.
If you lack the above sense.
You should not be running a tracker.
End Edit

I am a Cabinet Maker ( Carpenter ) by trade.
If you paid me to build you a grey TV display unit.
Then half way through building.
You changed the design and color.
You would pay for the materials and time spent on the first unit.
And pay for the same thing on the second one.

And when your TV breaks down.
Do not blame my display unit for causing it to break down.

That is not scamming - it is called real life.
