How to remove shoutbox

How do you remove the shoutbox, and new seeded torrents, and such from the index of the site, I tried to via the index.php file, still no luck.

To remove shoutbox go to admin=>shoutbox and turn it off
as the rest it is in theme/Yourtheme/main.php
